The Catalan region of La Cerdanya is characterised by climatic, historical and orographic features that give it a unique character. Made up of the upper Segre Valley, Cerdanya is one of the widest valleys in Europe. It stands out above all for its minimum altitude of approximately 1,000 m, its east-west orientation and its high level of sunshine, with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine throughout the year. La Cerdanya is the easternmost part of the Pyrenees mountain range, with peaks reaching an altitude of 2,500 and 3,000 metres. It has a rich diversity of ecosystems that have led to the creation of different protected areas by the administration such as, among others, the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park, the Eina Valley, the nature reserves of the Segre River, etc. It is a wide valley surrounded by high peaks, with a majestic landscape marked by large spaces, which differentiate it from the rest of the Pyrenean valleys, and with a peculiar climatology marked by its own unique meteorological phenomena.
