A municipality in Lower Cerdanya, it stretches from the river Segre to the top of the "Pedró dels Quatre Batlles", better known as La Tossa, at an altitude of 2,537m. This municipality borders the villages of Ger, Alp, Fontanals de Cerdanya, Urús, Prats and Isòvol, as well as the towns of Mosoll, Sanavastre and Tartera, and has its own Coma Oriola de Masella. The main places of interest in the municipality are the churches of St Llorenç de Das (neo-Gothic), Sant Julià in Tartera (11th century Romanesque style), Sant Iscle and Santa Victòria de Sanavastre (Romanesque) and the church of Mosoll (12th-13th century Romanesque).
